No. 23 Texas Beats Washington 4-3, Avoids Series Sweep: Live Game Log

The Longhorns aim to salvage their weekend series and win against the Huskies on Sunday.

Always win on Sundays. That motto is deeply ingrained within the culture for the No. 23 Texas Longhorns (10-8). Whether it means completing a series sweep, clinching a valuable series win or avoiding getting swept yourself, the mantra remains - Always win on Sunday.

Entering the series finale against the Washington Huskies (6-7-1) this mindset will be tested. A win against the Huskies avoids not only the series sweep, but their second three-game losing skid early in the campaign.

While an early season series loss is not a harbinger of doom for the Longhorns, being swept by Washington would send up an early crop of red flags regarding this team and how serious of a contender it truly is to make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament and potentially get to Omaha.

A win, however, prevents a three-game losing streak and momentarily rights the ship as the Longhorns head into a week with five scheduled games. Doing so, of course, could prove difficult if the version of the team from Friday and Saturday show up.

The bats need to wake up and the pitching staff needs a complete performance from both the starter and the bullpen. Otherwise, the Longhorns are in severe danger of being swept.

Stay tuned as we provide live updates as the Longhorns take on the Huskies from Disch-Falk Field on Sunday afternoon.
