CFP Bound? Projectors Love Texas Longhorns In Latest Bowl Predictions

The Texas Longhorns are viewed as a legitimate playoff contender in 2023.

Despite losing to the Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Rivalry, the Texas Longhorns are still very much in contention for the Big 12, and more importantly; the College Football Playoff.

They have just three games remaining in the regular season and are expected to be favored in all three. Even if Quinn Ewers isn't able to play, which signs are pointing to it being a possibility this weekend against TCU, the Longhorns have a deep enough team to make it out unscathed.

Something that numerous outlets are expecting them to do, as with bowl season approaching, the Longhorns are projected by five major outlets to make a pretty prominent bowl.

Something they haven't done since 2018 when Sam Ehlinger declared that they were back after upsetting the Georgia Bulldogs

Of the five outlets, two of them have Texas missing the College Football Playoff, as both ESPN and Bleacher Report have them slated to appear in the Cotton Bowl with ESPN calling for a meeting with Ohio State, and Bleacher Report calling for a rematch against Alabama.

On the other hand, CBS Sports, 247Sports, and Athlon Sports all have them making their first appearance in the College Football Playoff, as each one has them playing Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. This presumably means that Texas would be the No. 4 seed to Georgia's No. 1 seed.

The recipe for Texas is quite simple when it comes to being viewed as one of the top four teams. They absolutely must win the rest of their regular season games, and also need to win the Big 12 title.

However, this is something that's out of their control which is what happens to Washington. If the Huskies who beat Texas in the Alamo Bowl a year ago win the rest of their regular season games and the Pac-12 title game they will certainly get in.

However, if they drop one of their final games but win the Pac-12 title, things could get really interesting. Before we get ahead of ourselves and dive into all of the scenarios possible, Texas needs to handle business in Fort Worth on Saturday as they take on in-state foe TCU.
