One Stat Shows Why Texas Might Have The Best Offensive Tackle Duo in College Football

The Texas Longhorns addressed multiple areas of their roster this offseason through the transfer portal, but no position group added as many news face as the team’s offensive line did.

Both for depth and immediate impact, the Longhorns made it clear that the inconsistencies of last season’s offensive line simply couldn’t replicate itself if Texas wants to reach its championship-level heights this fall.

As a result, the Longhorns brought in five new offensive linemen with Laurence Seymore (Western Kentucky), Melvin Siani (Wake Forest), Jonte Newman (Texas A&M), Dylan Sikorski (Oregon State) and Paris Patterson Jr. (SMU). However, one name could end up proving more valuable than the rest due to what he gives Texas opposite of starting left tackle Trevor Goosby.

Trevor Goosby, Melvin Siani is An Elite Pairing for Texas

Siani arrived to Texas after one season at Wake Forest where he started all 13 games and was one of the best offensive linemen in the ACC. Prior to that, he spent two years at Temple.

It was last season's performance with the Demon Deacons that made him one of the more coveted offensive tackles in the portal once he elected to transfer. At first, Texas was targetting Colorado transfer Jordan Seaton before pivoting and landing Siani.

His pairing with Goosby as the two tackles set to protect Arch Manning gives Texas arguably the best duo at that position in the country, and the numbers back it up.

According to PFF, Siani (while at Wake Forest) and Goosby combined to allow just six quarterback hits and three sacks on 1,706 snaps last season. Now as teammates, producing similar numbers this fall will mean great things ahead for Texas.

Both of them could realistically be preparing for their rookie seasons in the NFL right now. Instead, they're going through fall camp in Austin.

There's some notable questions surrounding who will start on Texas' offensive line headed into the season, but not with Siani and Goosby. It's a luxury for the Longhorns that Steve Sarkisian and offensive line coach Kyle Flood won't have to give much thought about who their starters are at the two tackle spots.

Both players will be critical toward any success the Longhorns have on offense in what will be a pressure-filled season for an offensive line that had its share of inconsistencies in 2025.
