Several Schools Already Displaying Interest In Texas Transfer QB Maalik Murphy

As expected, ex-Texas Longhorns QB Maalik Murphy is already garnering serious buzz inside the NCAA Transfer Portal.

According to reports from ESPN College Football Insider Pete Thamel, several schools are already reaching out to Texas Longhorns transfer quarterback, Maalik Murphy.

Those schools include USC, South Carolina, Baylor, Duke, Syracuse, Oregon State and Georgia.

Georgia, of course, just lost backup Brock Vandagriff to the portal, while Carson Beck could elect to leave for the NFL. Georgia could also lose top QB recruit Dylan Raiola to Nebraska.

Murphy, who officially entered the portal on Thursday, hated the idea of leaving the Longhorns before the College Football Playoff but knows it is what's best for his career.

Texas Longhorns quarterback Maalik Murphy (6) looks to pass the ball during the third quarter against the Houston Cougars at TDECU Stadium.

Maalik Murphy vs. Houston

"I hate it, I hate it," Murphy told ESPN. "I'm super invested in this team. Everything that we've done along the way and all the work we've put in together, it's hard to walk away, especially at this point during the season."

"It's nothing against Texas at all. I'm doing this purely for me and my future. In my eyes, I'll always be a Longhorn and a part of this great team."

There will also likely be plenty of other options for Murphy that could come along as well, with big-time power conference schools like Michigan, UCLA, Ohio State, Florida State and Mississippi State, among others, all still looking for new QBs as well.

One thing all of those schools, including the ones listed by Thamel all have in common? Murphy would finally get his chance to earn the starting job.

"A place where I can play," Murphy said. "Continue to get better and continue to be around great people and great players. And just do what's best for me and my career... I just want to be in a position where I can play."
