Texas Longhorns Make Top 5 List for Elite Wide Receiver

In this story:
Four-star wide receiver Julian Caldwell, a highly-sought after prospect in the class of 2027, has harbored the attention of college coaches across the country throughout this recruiting cycle.
The Argyle, Texas, native is 247Sports’ No. 15 ranked wide receiver in his class, and he has earned over 40 Division I offers to take his talents to the next level.
According to Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett, Caldwell has narrowed his search to five programs: the Texas Longhorns, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Texas Tech Red Raiders, SMU Mustangs and Oregon Ducks.
Texas makes Caldwell’s top five

Being from Argyle means residing just three hours north of the Forty Acres, something that could make Texas an appealing school for Caldwell. The Longhorns extended Caldwell an offer on April 29, 2025, meaning that he has had the university as an option for almost a year now.
He also attended the Texas’ camp last summer, further demonstrating his interest in the program. Now that the in-state powerhouse program has officially made his short list for potential programs to commit to, the most important part of the recruiting battle begins.
The official visit window for juniors in high school opened on April 1, and Caldwell has set dates to visit four of his top five schools. He will head to SMU on May 1, Texas Tech on June 5, Oregon on June 12 and Texas on June 19.
After this stretch of officials, he will likely draw nearer to making a final decision. Earning Caldwell’s commitment could be a momentous recruiting win for the Longhorns, especially given his high school athletic background.
What does Caldwell bring to the table?

During his 2025 football season, Caldwell recorded 1,737 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns on 94 receptions across 14 games. His work on the field has helped him earn recognition as one of the most talented prospects in the state of Texas.
Caldwell is also a dual-sport athlete, running track in addition to playing football at Argyle High School. He ran 100-meter dash reps of 10.92, 10.96, 10.98 and 10.99 during his sophomore season, and he also competes in the long jump and high jump.
His speed and athleticism make him a strong candidate to succeed at the next level, and with one more high school football season to continue developing, it will be interesting to see what condition this 6-foot-1, 185-pound prospect could arrive at college in.
With plenty of time left to make his final selection, Caldwell approaches official visit season with five programs at the top of his mind.
