Will Texas Longhorns Flip Five-Star Receiver Dakorien Moore?

One Longhorns recruiting analyst believes that Texas is in prime position to flip five-star receiver Dakorien Moore.

The Texas Longhorns are looking to make a big splash in the 2025 recruiting cycle.

Thus far, they have had a very impressive haul, landing commitments six commitments - each of which is a four-star recruit - and coming in with the No. 7 ranked class in the country.

As part of that class, the Longhorns already have a potential quarterback of the future in KJ Lacey, an elite running back in Rickey Stewart Jr., and a talented tight end in Emaree Winston. One thing it does not have - at least yet - is a true No. 1 wide receiver. And that is where the potential splash comes in.

According to On3 Longhorns recruiting analyst Justin Wells, the Longhorns are in great position to flip five-star and No. 1 wide receiver Dakorien Moore from LSU.

“We’re pretty optimistic. And to tell you the truth, we’ve been optimistic for a while," Wells said. "When you commit early in your junior year that team becomes the target. And so instead of recruiting the kid a lot of times, I think schools fall into the trap of recruiting against the school, recruiting against LSU. That’s tough in this cycle. But with Dakorien, I think there’s a sense that staying closer to home is going to be the way to go."

Moore, who has been committed to the Tigers since August of last year, ranks as the No. 3 player nationally, No. 1 wide receiver, and No. 1 player in Texas. He is also the consensus No. 1 player in Texas, per the four major recruiting services.

The Duncanville product is also a former teammate of current Longhorns Collin Simmons, Alex January and Cameron Williams, helping them to win a state championship in 2022.

And according to Moore himself, the idea of being closer to home - which could only be amplified by the idea of playing with his former teammates - is what has the Horns in a position to strike.

“It’s always been home since before me,” Moore told 247Sports in March. “My granny, all them grew up loving Texas. I gave it a chance. My momma really forced me to. I’ll say it was a good thing, though. Once I seen what it was, I started loving it too. They're really family-oriented. I really loved it. On top of that I’m big on relationships, so they really bring it.”

That said, it appears there could be some time before a decision is made.

"I don't think anything is imminent," Wells said. "I feel like he's solid to LSU, I feel like he can see himself playing at LSU if he needs to... But for Moore and Texas, it just makes too much sense."

Moore has been with the varsity squad at Duncanville since his freshman season in 2021, racking up 130 catches for 2,653 yards and 29 touchdowns over that time, including 71 catches for 1,523 yards and 18 scores in his junior campaign.

Moore will be back in Austin on April 20 for a visit, and is set to take an official to the 40 Acres this summer.
