Spring Game Preview: Four Texas Longhorns Offensive Players to Watch

The Texas Longhorns' spring game will showcase the new-look weapons that Steve Sarkisian has to work with.

With the 2024 college football season over 130 days away, the closest thing that fans will get to a real game is the upcoming spring game.

Like many programs around the country, the Texas Longhorns will be hosting their spring game this weekend and while the team returns a ton of talent, there are certainly spots up for grabs. That remains especially true on the offensive side of the ball with the unit losing all three starting receivers, its starting running back, starting tight end, and the starting right tackle all to the NFL.

It's a good problem to have so much NFL talent, but it does mean that someone needs to step up and fill that role. Here are four players that Texas fans absolutely need to look out for on Saturday.

Isaiah Bond, Wide Receiver

The Longhorns lost three receivers to the NFL, two of which are projected first-round picks which means someone needs to establish themself as the alpha. Alabama transfer Isaiah Bond certainly is the clubhouse favorite to do so considering he was the No. 1 ranked transfer receiver in the portal. He has elite speed, so seeing him and Quinn Ewers connect on a deep ball is something every fan is clamoring for.

Cameron Williams, Right Tackle

From the moment that Cameron Williams committed To Texas, fans knew he would eventually work his way into the starting rotation. The Duncanville product was listed at 6-foot-5, 380 pounds as a recruit, but has since slimmed down to 360 pounds and has a chance to replace staple of the offensive line, Christian Jones. Saturday will give fans and coaches alike a look at how well Williams holds up as "the guy" at that right tackle spot, and with a strong performance, can put a claim on the role.

Ryan Wingo, Wide Receiver

The Longhorns brought in a handful of transfer receivers, and also have guys like Johntay Cook II and DeAndre Moore who have waited their turn. However, five-star freshman Ryan Wingo has been consistently named as a spring standout, and Saturday will give him a chance to put his skillset on full display. The assumption by most is that Bond, Houson transfer Matthew Golden, and Oregon State transfer Silas Bolden will be the starters, but if Wingo is as advertised, he could very well snatch a starting role from one of them or push someone out.

Texas Longhorns quarter backs Arch Manning during spring practice at the Frank Denius practice

Arch Manning, Quarterback

Last year's spring game and season in general, Texas fans didn't get to see much from the prized five-star recruit. In the spring game he completed just 5-of-13 passes for 30 yards, and was outshined by now-Duke quarterback Maalik Murphy. With Murphy no longer in the fold, and Manning having a whole year in the system, fans should expect to see his biggest outing yet. Manning is now one play away from being the starter during the 2024 season, and on Saturday, fans will have a chance to really see what he can do.
