Three Longhorns Appear on Midseason All-American Team

Texas running back Jonathon Brooks has made the Midseason All-American First Team.

As the college football season reaches its halfway point, a common name for the Texas Longhorns has been making headlines: Texas running back Jonathon Brooks.

Although Texas star running backs Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson are long out of a burnt-orange jersey, the Longhorns' run game has not suffered thanks to Brooks' exceptional performances on the field which has earned him a spot on the First Midseason All-American Team.

Brooks, a junior from Hallettsville, Texas has had an electrifying 2023 season so far. His athletic agility has made him a standout player this year. Off of 108 carries in six games, Brooks has recorded 726 yards and six touchdowns.

In the past four consecutive games that Brooks has taken the field with the Longhorns, he has recorded over 100 rushing yards each matchup. His standout game this season was against Kansas when Brooks totaled 218 rushing yards and two touchdowns to take a 40-14 victory over the Jayhawks.

Aside from Brooks, two additional Longhorns made the Midseason Second Team All-American roster: defensive linemen T'Vondre Sweat (fifth year) and Byron Murphy II (fourth year).

This season Sweat has acquired 18 total tackles, eight solo and has assisted with ten. He has also recorded one sack, which is tied with the most he has ever accomplished during his time in a burnt-orange jersey.

Murphy, however, has recorded 15 total sacks this season, seven solo and eight assisted. On top of that, the lineman has already passed up his personal sack record as a college athlete with 2.5 in just six games.

As the season progresses, fans can expect to see more breakthroughs from these Texas stars.
