Cowboys NOT Meeting With Bijan Robinson of Texas? Here's Why

Bijan Robinson could surely be off the board when the Cowboys pick at No. 26 in the first round. But just in case ...

INDIANAPOLIS - Texas star Bijan Robinson announced from the podium here at the NFL Scouting Combine that he has not met formally in Indianapolis with the Dallas Cowboys and that he's not scheduled to do so.

There has been enough buzz about a Cowboys' connection with the 2022 Doak Walker Award winner that the news strikes as a little bit odd, even as ...

-Dallas is on the record about wanting to retain running back Tony Pollard, who sources tell CowboysSI.com will be franchise tagged on Tuesday barring the unlikely forging of a new long-term contract ...

-Team owner Jerry Jones also continues to express a desire to retain Ezekiel Elliott, albeit at a reduced rate.

But there is a story behind the story here.

The Cowboys' interest in Robinson - deemed by some as "the best running back prospect in the NFL Draft in the last 10 years'' - is real enough that the team is meeting with the agent for the Texas star.

So no "formal meeting'' with the player at the combine, an absolutely worthy note.

But a more subtle meeting with the agent.

Also noteworthy. Heck, given the fact that Dallas surely already knows plenty about Robinson - the top-rated running back in the 2023 NFL Draft who may very well be a top-five talent - maybe the agent angle is even more noteworthy.

Robinson could surely be off the board when the Cowboys pick at No. 26 in the first round. Indeed, during his media session on Saturday, he talked of joining the Houston Texans (who have picks Nos. 2 and 12) and he talked of joining the Atlanta Falcons (No. 8) and his likely NFL superstardom probably won't happen in conjunction with the Cowboys.

But just in case. A non-meeting. And then a meeting.
