ESPN Says Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers Has 'Most To Prove' in College Football

Quinn Ewers had an up-and-down 2022 and must take a step forward for the Longhorns to succeed in 2023.

Upon his arrival on the 40 Acres, Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers was expected to take the program to the next level.

And while there were certainly flashes of greatness in his game in 2022, including fantastic performances against Alabama and Oklahoma Ewers' up-and-down season left much to be desired.

Still, there is no denying Ewers's talent, and for the Longhorns to get where they want to go in 2023, he will have to utilize that talent to its full potential.

But is he capable of that kind of jump? If so, could he finally lead the Longhorns 'back'?

Those are just some of the questions facing Ewers next season.

No Pressure right?

Well, it doesn't stop there.

According to ESPN, with five-star super recruit Arch Manning now in Austin, Ewers will have more to prove than any other player in college football.

Quinn Ewers was the star transfer of last offseason, bringing his flowing locks to Austin and taking the reins of Steve Sarkisian's offense loaded with stars like Robinson and Worthy. But he threw for fewer than 200 yards in six games, which is acceptable given Robinson's caliber for chewing up yards. But Ewers finished 53rd in QBR, threw just 15 touchdown passes (tied for 73rd), and sometimes struggled when defenses stacked up on Robinson, like against TCU when he threw for 171 yards and an interception on 39 attempts when Robinson was held to 29 yards. With Arch Manning coming in, and an offense returning every starter except Robinson while adding Georgia WR transfer Adonai Mitchell, Sarkisian will expect to score points. The mullet is already gone. Is this the beginning of a new Ewers?

With all of the new weapons heading to Austin in 2023, if Ewers is able to take a leap forward, the sky is the limit for the Longhorns.

And even if that leap is moderate, Texas will once again have a chance to challenge for a Big 12 title in their final season in the league.
