Texas Is Leading the Race For An Elite 4-Star Receiver

In this story:
With the summer recruiting period underway, Texas currently ranks No. 13 nationally in terms of its current list of commitments from the class of 2027.
With three four-stars and one five-star, wide receiver Easton Royal, currently committed, the Longhorns are still working to put together an incoming freshman class that can match that of years past, with the No. 7 class in 2026 and No. 1 class in 2025.
However, the Longhorns are currently trending for several blue-chip prospects that can make a huge difference in the quality of this class. The latest expert prediction from On3 claims that Texas is on track to gain the commitment of a four-star target wide receiver.

On3's Sam Spiegelman released a prediction that Texas made its way to the top of the list of potential universities for 2027 four-star wide receiver Briceson Thrower Jr., who hails from Forney, Texas outside of the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Thrower, at 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, is the No. 56-ranked wide receiver nationally and No. 52 overall player in the state of Texas. He's a popular in-state recruit, receiving interest from SMU, Texas Tech and Texas A&M in addition to Texas, as well as out of state schools like Oklahoma and Illinois. Currently he has three official visits locked down with Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M and Illinois and will be visiting the Forty Acres on June 15.
During his junior season, Thrower posted 529 yards and five touchdowns across 32 catches to earn First-Team All-District 10-6A honors, as well as end the season ranking in the top-14 in the Dallas-Fort Worth region for receiving yards. His speed makes him a reliable downfield athlete that can break away from pass coverage, with a 200-meter time of 23.31 posted during his sophomore track season.
If Thrower commits to Texas, he'll be coming in around the time that sophomore quarterback Dia Bell looks to take charge of the Longhorns and has the potential to develop as an offensive playmaker who can add considerable yards to each catch.
It's also interesting to note that he would be the seventh 2027 prospect from Texas to commit to the Longhorns so far, joining the ranks of edge Cameron Hall, offensive lineman Keyon Hemphill-Woods, safety Greedy James, linebacker Cade Haug, quarterback Ty Knutson and offensive lineman Jackson Cook.
On3 currently has Texas listed as having an 85.2% chance to solidify a commitment from Thrower, with Texas Tech coming in second with a 3.4% chance.
Texas also has its eyes on several other receiver prospects, including four-star Tre Moore and four-star Julian Caldwell, both also out of Texas.
With several blue-chip recruits naming Texas as a favorite, the Longhorns are on track to once again end the recruiting period with a top-10 freshman class.
