UCLA Football: New OC Eric Bieniemy Reflects On Departure From Commanders

The UCLA Bruins made a slam dunk hire this offseason when they brought on Eric Bieniemy to be their offensive coordinator and associate head coach. Considering his track record and accomplishments as an offensive coordinator in the NFL, it was quite a surprise but a significant tone.

Bieniemy is known for his time as the offensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs from 2018 to 2022; however, he led that job to become the PC of the Washington Commanders. 2023 was his lone season in Washington, and just like that, he landed in Westwood.

Was he fired? Did he and the team agree to part ways? What exactly happened between the 54-year-old and the commanders? Well, to find out, we may need to ask the Commanders because Bieniemy isn't going to tell us. In a recent media scrum, Bieniemy revealed nothing about his exit from Washington.

"Here's what I'm going to say: I'm here coaching at UCLA, all the other stuff; you can go talk to the Commanders."

The Commanders hired former USC senior offensive analyst and former Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury as their new offensive coordinator. The only concrete thing that was reported on by the Washington Post regarding Bieniemy and the Commanders was that head coach Dan Quinn had fired Bieniemy with a year left on his contract.

It was evident Bieniemy's time in Washington was winding down, and low and behold, his time ended. The page has officially turned for both Bieniemy and the Commanders. They found their guy, and the Bruins indeed found their guy who should lead them to new heights.

The Bieniemy era has arrived in Westwood.
