UCLA Men's Basketball: Four-Star Prep Prospect Considering Bruins

Your UCLA Bruins may struggle to match their Sweet 16 run last year with so much roster churn ahead of their 2023-24 season, but their long-term future (when they relocate to the Big Ten and beyond) is already looking bright.
According to Jamie Shaw of On3, class of 2025 high school swingman Trey McKenney, a four-star prep prospect out of St. Mary's High School in Michigan, is weighing a potential future with UCLA, among a few other high-level basketball powerhouses.
Trey McKenney intends to visit three California programs currently in the Pac-12, though two of them will have hopped over to the Big Ten by the time he's actually in college. Those programs are the Stanford Cardinal, our dreaded crosstown nemeses USC, and the Bruins.
Per 247Sports, the 6'4", 225-pound wing is the 13th-ranked prospect among his draft class in the nation, the second-best in his state, and the top small forward. The site also indicates that Alabama, Arizona State, DePaul, Eastern Michigan and Florida State are also interested in McKenney's services.
“They have a free-flowing offense, and he lets his guards go, gives them a lot of freedom," McKenney said of UCL. "Seeing what I could do there, them showing me how I can step in and play, and their vision for me to be a big asset to the team is good. And it’s in California, I mean, who doesn’t want to go out there?”
When asked for player comps and style, the solidly-build swingman reached for some two-way All-Stars.
“I’m tough,” McKenney told Shaw “I can score on all three levels, and I bring the same toughness and intensity on the other end of the floor too. I watch a lot of Devin Booker and bigger guards like Joe Johnson.”
