UCLA Men's Basketball: Freshman Guard Impressing In Early Offseason Workouts

Could we see another star guard in the making in Westwood?

When Sebastian Mack announced that he would be committing to the University of California, Los Angeles, the Bruins community immediately tuned in to his high school highlights and there was a lot to love. Head coach Mick Cronin has actually given more freedom to his young guards over these past few seasons and when Mack got going in high school and during EYBL seasons, he was hard to stop.

Mack is a high-IQ guard that can score at multiple levels and commits to tough matchups on the defensive side of the floor. The Bruins are set for this coming season and with a number of international signings finally being made official, we'll see some official roles on the team get set over these next few months.

In Mack's case, he has had the luxury of already being able to put in work with some of his new teammates on campus and he's already turning heads. Tracy Pierson of 247 Sports spoke to a number of spectators from UCLA's summer workouts and many confirmed that the incoming freshman has been holding his own!

"The general consensus from those who observed some summer workouts and then the practices, the standout is freshman guard Sebastian Mack. At about 6-3, he's physically tough, and mentally tough, has a relentless motor, and has shown some eye-opening athleticism, which allows him to play a little bigger than he is. On offense, he's very tough to defend off the dribble, being strong on the ball coming down the lane and able to finish with power. He can shoot, even though it's a bit streaky at times."

I have agreed with some growing opinions about Mack in that he has the potential to be a go-to scoring option for the Bruins this year.

We all know that UCLA looks to different options as the season goes on and Mack is already preparing!
