UCLA Sports Round-Up: Aspiring Olympian Volleyballer, Sad News For Men's Golf

The wide world of UCLA Bruins athletics remains as busy as ever this week. Let's take a gander at everything that's cooking beyond the universes of football and men's basketball.

In a new interview, Rahaf Abumansour of The Daily Bruin speaks with aspiring 2028 Olympian middle blocker Anna Dodson, a 6'5" redshirt senior with your UCLA women's volleyball team about how she guides the club, currently 17-12 (11-5 in their conference).

“I’ve always been very passionate when I play. I think in the past few years, it was hard for me to show that emotion,” the two-time All-Pac-12 honoree reflected. “The big thing that arises for me is inspiring the younger generations and making sure they’re not putting too much pressure on themselves, but still working hard and looking for something that they’re passionate for.”

In sadder news, Ben Bolch of The Los Angeles Times reveals that longtime UCLA men's golf coach Eddie Merrins has passed away at the age of 91. Per Adam Schupak of USA Today, Merrins, a.k.a. "The Li'l Pro," enjoyed a 14-year run with the Bruins, which peaked when he led the club to an NCAA title in 1988.
