UCLA Football: Bruins Offer Another 2024 Quarterback Days After Commitment of Karson Gordon

Chip Kelly is still active on the recruiting front

Sixth-year UCLA Bruins football head coach Chip Kelly is a man of his word.

Kelly has not been fazed by the recent reports of his "likely firing." He recently told assembled media that he is focused on beating USC, taking everything one week at a time.

Last week, UCLA earned the commitment of 2024 quarterback Karson Gordon out of Episcopal High School in Bellaire, Texas.

But that didn't stop Chip Kelly from calling up Xaverian Brothers (Westwood, MA) 2024 quarterback Henry Hasselbeck.

Henry Hasselbeck is the son of former NFL quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. He is also, according to 247Sports, a coveted lacrosse player and had been committed to Maryland. He has since de-committed and is actually currently committed to Michigan State as a quarterback. Michigan State will soon become a familiar foe for UCLA as they enter the Big 10 next year.

Chip Kelly has stated that they don't particularly look for kids in any one area, rather, they want to get the best players possible wherever they are in the country. So, as we approach early signing day (December 22nd) and regular signing day (February 7th).

UCLA's 2024 recruiting class currently holds 12 commits. Current UCLA quarterback Dante Moore looks to be the future of Bruin football should everything stay the same as they enter their first season in the Big 10. He didn't have as great of a freshman season as many probably expected, but he did show glimpses of solid play.

Chip Kelly also has been very effective in the transfer portal, bringing in key difference makers like running back Carson Steele from Ball Sate. So, while it may be unlikely that UCLA will end up with two late-cycle additions at the QB position, it at least shows Bruin fans and the rest of the country that Kelly is still very vested in the program, despite the reports of his likely firing.
