Former UCLA women's basketball standout Jordin Canada is being pushed by her hometown WNBA franchise, the Los Angeles Sparks, for not one but two end-of-year honors: the WNBA All-Defensive Team and Most Improved Player.

The veteran guard is averaging a career-best 13.3 points (on 53.1% true shooting and 33.1% three-point shooting) and 3.1 rebounds per bout, along with six assists a night (a top-five mark in the league), and a WNBA-leading 2.2 steals per contest.

Though Canada enjoyed her best individual pro season ever, her team wasn't quite as lucky. The Sparks finished with a 17-23 record in 2023, one spot shy of the eighth and final playoff seed.

Following a stellar college career, wherein the 5'6" point guard was twice named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, the 28-year-old point guard was selected by the Seattle Storm with the fifth pick in the 2018 WNBA draft.

While at UCLA, Canada was also named to three Pac-12 All-Defense and All-Pac-12 squads, and was an Associated Press All-American and two-time NCAA All-Region selection. Across 137 college contests (131 starts), Canada posted averages of 15.7 points on .415/.332/.794 shooting splits, 7.1 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 3.3 steals.

The Most Improved Player award and All-Defensive Team will be announced later this year.
