USC Women’s Basketball: JuJu Watkins Picks Standout Moment Of Freshman Season

To no surprise, JuJu Watkins called her 51-point game against Stanford the standout moment of her freshman season. While Watkin's freshman year for USC women's basketball was full of incredible moments, achievements and awards, it's hard to top her incredible 51-point performance versus Stanford, which has long been one of the top women's college basketball programs.

Watkins broke down the "Avatar"- esque zone she entered in that game as she hit 53.8% of her shots off the field, one of her highest percentages of the season. She also hit six three-point shots during the game, tied for her highest amount made during the season.

“I mean the 51 is just insane," Watkins said on Podcast P with Paul George. "I went on a crazy run where I just didn’t miss. You just in the zone. You block out everything, you don’t see no defenders. You just start shooting … you like in an Avatar state."

Watkins' 51-point game set the single-game scoring record for USC. Along with the 51 points, she put 11 rebounds and two assists in the Trojans' 67-58 win over Stanford. Her performance earned her the Pac-12 Player of the Week and the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week award, as well as garnered even more national attention.

Beyond the 51-point game, several of Watkins' other best moments during the season included leading USC to win the final Pac-12 Tournament Championship, advancing the Trojans to the NCAA Elite Eight for the first time in thirty years, and breaking the NCAA freshman scoring record as she became the first NCAA women's college basketball freshman to score over 900 points.
