USC Basketball: Isaiah Collier Lands FOTW Honor For Performance

At least he's closing out a (probably) doomed year strong?

Not much has gone right for your USC Trojans this season.

Amidst several injuries, the Cardinal and Gold has slid to a miserable 12-17 record on the year (6-12 in the Pac-12 Conference), and is hoping against hope that it can win the Pac-12 Tournament outright, in order to qualify for the Big Dance.

But at least the team's most intriguing pre-NBA talent is coming on strong to close out the regular season.

Per the club's official X/Twitter account, 6'5" combo guard Isaiah Collier has been named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week, thanks to his stellar efforts in the club's contests against the Washington State University Cougars and the Washington Huskies last week. He scored 24 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the floor in a narrow 75-72 defeat to WSU, followed by a 31-point effort on 14-of-20 shooting from the floor during an 82-75 win over Washington Saturday.

For the year, Collier is averaging 17 points on .496/.329/.669 shooting splits, 4.1 assists, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.6 steals a night.

He's projected to be a top lottery selection in this summer's NBA draft, though his team's underwhelming production and his uncomfortable fit alongside fellow star Trojans guard Boogie Ellis could give prospective teams pause.
