USC Basketball: Trojans Guard Named To All-Tournament Team After Team Comes Up Short

Tough loss, but a great game.

USC's heartbreaking 72-70 loss to the Oklahoma Sooners on an Otega Oweh game-winning putback layup capped off the 2023 Rady Children's Invitational Friday.

The Trojans opened the tournament with a 71-63 victory against the Seton Hall Pirates on Thanksgiving afternoon but fell short in the championship against the Sooners in a tightly-contested, highly entertaining game.

Amidst the loss, guard Boogie Ellis was named to the Rady Children's Invitational All-Tournament Team, averaging 19.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game.

Ellis was an instrumental part of the Trojans' success, putting up 22 in the opening win and 16 in the loss. Efficiency was a concern, as he shot just 6/16 in the loss, but his shot creation and playmaking are highly valuable for Southern Cal.

Across the season, Ellis is putting up All-American caliber numbers, averaging 21.3 points per game on 62.5% true shooting.

With critical games ahead including matchups with Gonzaga, Auburn, and Oregon (to open conference play) in the next few weeks, continue to look to Ellis to be USC's top offensive option as they approach the most challenging part of the calendar.
