At an underwhelming 6-5 record of late (3-2 at home), your USC Trojans men's football program finds itself absolutely struggling to grapple with the brand-new world of paid collegiate events. Several players are ditching LA for supposed greener pastures.

R.J. Abetia of RJ Abetia of USCFootball.com/247Sports writes:

"But temporarily granting a right of return within a reasonable window (a week?) or even just making it permissible to return for all players who are ready to go portal single and mingle. It’s how NFL free agency works."

"It won’t solve all the problems. It will help.," Abeta writes. "USC has welcomed four new transfers in while watching 16 players enter the portal. This isn’t about the value of any of the 16 players and whether USC should want some or any of them back. It’s about a system in which players make decisions and far too often do so without a real plan... The game could reduce the number of such covert operations and provide sensible reprieves for both players and programs. Every time a guy leaves, a program has to find a replacement. One would think that math would create a balance but the 1,300 names in the portal suggests otherwise."
