USC Football: Caleb Williams Opens Up About the Meaning Behind His Crown Celebration

In this story:
The USC Trojans and superstar QB Caleb Williams are in for a doozy this weekend when they take on their arch-rivals, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
This is the first of what will be a grueling schedule for the Trojans as their college football playoff fates could be decided from Saturday till the end of the season. We will truly know what the Trojans are made of as early as Saturday night at the conclusion of the game.
Regardless of the result, we know there is a little chance we will have our doubts about Williams. If they lose, it won’t be because of him that we’re sure of. The 21-year-old QB has proven time and time again that he is the best player in college football, and he certainly acts like it.
Like last week, Williams put his team on his back, carrying them to a triple-OT victory while scoring four total touchdowns. In one of his touchdown celebrations, the go-ahead game-winner in the third OT, he crowned himself like so.

Williams was asked about it earlier this week during his presser after practice, and he explained why he does so.

“Kind of an energy thing for me. Kind of a persona that I’m taking on, I guess you could say - just king vibes and going out there and showing why.”
The celebration occurred in their late-season win to Notre Dame last season at the Coliseum, where Caleb scored one passing touchdown and three rushing touchdowns. The Trojans won that matchup going away, but this time, with the defense having even more question marks than last season and in a hostile environment, it will be an uphill battle.
All eyes will be on Williams (as always), and they might need his king energy to get them over the hump and show they deserve to be in the championship conversation.
