USC Football: Trojans Hold Top 25 Spot Despite Back-to-Back Losses

In this story:

This weekend was supposed to be a bounce-back game for the USC Trojans after they were handed their first loss of the season to Notre Dame a week ago. But for the second straight week, USC dropped a game, and now they sit with two losses on the season.

The loss to Utah this weekend saw them drop in the AP Poll, and they are holding on for dear life. The Trojans are ranked 24th in the new poll and are lucky to still be in the top 25.

This marks the third straight loss to Utah overall, and USC just hasn't been able to find a way to take down the Utes. They were the only team to beat the Trojans a year ago, and now it is more of the same.

Star quarterback Caleb Williams struggled against the Utah defense and has now put together two lackluster performances. His issues aside, the Trojans have some real problems moving forward.

The team is still scheduled to face both Oregon and Washington down the stretch of the season, and they also have a matchup against cross-town rival UCLA, who is now ranked ahead of them. It's a tough slate of games coming up for USC, so they need to figure something out.

While their dreams of a National Championship are out the window, they can still salvage the season if they win out. The Pac-12 title is still in reach for this team, but they must be more disciplined.

Their defense has been an issue all season long, but the offensive line issues aren't that far behind. They have seen it bubble up in recent weeks, leading to some big problems for this high-powered offense.

If things don't change, this will be another wasted season for the Trojans. It already is a letdown due to the high expectations of this program entering the season, but it could get very ugly if they drop another game.
