USC Football: Trojans Making Concerted Push For Standout Defensive Lineman

In this story:
The USC Trojans are pulling out all the stops for their last-minute push to acquire high school talent. Head coach Lincoln Riley and defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn are recruiting around the country, and one player they visited may pay off soon enough.
After four-star defensive lineman recruit from Prior Lake, Minnesota, Jide Abasiri de-committed from Minnesota; he is now favored to commit to USC after Riley and Lynn visited the young man. The Trojans are doing all they can for the defensive lineman, and he recently spoke on the coach's visit and the impact to USC insiders from On3.
“I wasn’t even planning on going to the visit at first, but thankfully I did,” said Abasiri. “I just saw how many opportunities were out there in Los Angeles, and saw how good of a school USC is. Not just for football, but for academics and the brand itself.
“So, I saw everything and I saw how they would use me in their defense. I talked to Coach (D’Anton) Lynn and they would just help me prepare for the NFL really well.”

According to On3, Jide is the number 49 defensive lineman in his 2024 class, the number four player in Minnesota, and listed 516 in the No. 600 overall prospect list.
Abasiri spoke about the role Lynn and Riley envisioned him in on defense.
“They want me to rush the passer, stop the run and then maybe even drop back into coverage,” Aabasiri said. “Me and Coach Lynn had a meeting and he was showing me the UCLA film. He showed me how they ran their defense and where they envisioned me and that I reminded him a lot Liatu Latu. In that we’re very versatile and in terms of size…and everything. They see me as an edge rusher or outside linebacker.”

It's only a matter of time before Abasiri commits to USC.
