USC is the place to be in college football entering the 2026 season. Entering what is a pivotal fifth season under coach Lincoln Riley, there is much excitement surrounding the Trojans football program, especially with the arrival of the No. 1-ranked recruiting class in the country.

After falling just short of their aspirations of reaching the College Football Playoff last season, finishing with a 9-4 overall record, Trojan fans are hoping that USC’s first No. 1-ranked recruiting class since 2006 under former coach Pete Carroll will help them reach the championship stage.

Amid USC’s roller coaster last four seasons, in which they have come just short of securing a spot in the CFP on two separate occasions, Riley has offered the Trojan fanbase patience in taking the next step. The Trojans 2026 season result will answer if that patience paid off with an appearance in the CFP.

With the No. 1-ranked class set to take the field when the Trojans open their 2026 season against the San Jose State Spartans on Aug. 29 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Riley recently spoke about USC’s recent success on the recruiting trail

“Program's gotten better, the university’s investments gotten better. Everything about the program has gotten better, and with that, you’re going to have recruits that take notice and want to be a part of it,” Riley said.

Top players in USC’s 2026 recruiting class that look to make an immediate impact on offense, including wide receivers Kayden Dixon-Wyatt, Trent Mosley, and Luc Weaver, along with four-star tight end Mark Bowman. All four players are rated as four-star recruits, per 247Sports.

Five-star offensive lineman Keenyi Pepe and four-star cornerback Elbert Hill IV are also players to watch for the Trojans next season.

The success of adding the No. 1 2026 class has started to carry over into the 2027 recruiting cycle, as the Trojans could be set up for even more talent down the line. The Trojans 2027 recruiting class currently ranks at No. 5 overall, per 247Sports, behind the Oklahoma Sooners (No. 1), Texas A&M Aggies (No. 2), Ohio State Buckeyes (No. 3), and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (No. 4).

The boost in their 2027 recruiting class ranking comes after two talented four-star recruits recently committed to USC, Cathedral Catholic athlete Honor Fa’alave Johnson and Mater Dei cornerback Danny Lang. The Trojans added both recruits over their Big Ten rival, the Oregon Ducks, which made the commitments even more special.

USC also flipped four-star Servite High School offensive tackle Drew Fielder from Oregon on March 28. Despite all the recent success on the recruiting trail, it’s time for USC to back it up with a championship-caliber season.

The return of USC starting quarterback Jayden Maiava and several other contributors from last season’s roster helps in the Trojans effort to reach their championship aspirations. USC also brings in former TCU coach Gary Patterson as its new defensive coordinator, where his main objective will be to bring a new identity and energy to the Trojans defense that has held the team back in its first four seasons of Riley’s coaching tenure.
