Tony Bennett and the Cavaliers have struck again in the transfer portal.

Following a visit to UVA over the weekend, Oklahoma transfer forward Jacob Groves announced his commitment to Virginia in a social media post on Tuesday night.

A 6'9", 210-pound forward originally from Spokane, Washington, Groves has played in 116 games over a four-year college basketball career that began with two seasons at Eastern Washington. In 2021, Groves transferred to Oklahoma, where he spent the last two seasons.

In the 2022-2023 season, Groves played in 32 games and logged 22 starts, averaging 6.8 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. Capable of stretching the floor from the forward spot, Groves shot 38.1% from beyond the arc and 43.8% from the floor. He had four games in double figures in Big 12 play this season, including a 17-point performance against Texas. Groves can also put the ball on the floor and drive to the basket. Check out some highlights from his final season at Oklahoma in the video below:

Groves provides another capable and experienced piece to UVA's depleted front court, which saw the departures of Jayden Gardner, Ben Vander Plas, Kadin Shedrick, Francisco Caffaro, and Isaac Traudt since the end of the season. Virginia has added two forwards from the transfer portal in the last couple of weeks, with Groves joining Merrimack transfer Jordan Minor, who committed to UVA on April 13th

The Cavaliers are adding four transfers to their roster for the 2023-2024 season: Jacob Groves, Andrew Rohde, Jordan Minor, and Dante Harris, who transferred to Virginia from Georgetown back in December.

UVA currently has 10 scholarship spots filled for the 2023-2024 season - 11 if Reece Beekman decides to withdraw from the NBA Draft - leaving the Cavaliers with two (possibly three) open scholarships for next year.
