Virginia is in the mix for one of the top available centers in the transfer portal. Micah Handlogten, a 7'1" freshman center from Marshall, recently cut his list of transfer destinations to eight schools and included Virginia along with NC State, Florida, Auburn, Georgia, Indiana, Missouri, and Arkansas, per a report from 247Sports' Cory Smith.

A 7'1", 227-pound freshman from Huntersville, North Carolina, Handlogten entered the transfer portal at the end of March after starting every game this season as a true freshman at Marshall. He scored 7.6 points per game on 66.2% shooting and averaged 9.8 rebounds, 2.3 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game, ranking in the top ten nationally in rebounds and blocks. Handlogten was named the 2022-2023 Sun Belt Freshman of the Year.

On3 ranks Handlogten as the fifth-ranked center in the transfer portal. Per the report from Cory Smith, Handlogten is planning to visit Florida from April 6th through 8th and is still working on scheduling other visits in the future.

Virginia is expected to be an active buyer in the transfer portal market this offseason after losing eight scholarship players since the end of the season. The front court is a particular area of need and the Cavaliers have certainly prioritized finding a center in the portal.

Two potential transfer portal targets have scheduled visits to Virginia for the next couple of weeks. Merrimack transfer Jordan Minor will visit UVA on April 6th and 7th and Texas Tech transfer Robert Jennings is set to visit Virginia from April 14th to 16th.
