In this story:
Virginia Tech is working hard on building one of the ACC's best recruiting classes and they got better today.
Three star defensive lineman Brock Frisby, a 6'3 265 LBS DL who plays Archbishop Spalding (MD), announced his commitment to the Hokies today on social media, making him the second pledge in the 2027 recruiting class. Big Addition
Frisby is ranked as the No. 746 player in the country, the No. 85 DL, and the No. 18 player in the state of Maryland. He held other offers from Cincinnati, Kentucky, Rutgers, and Nebraska, among others. He is reportedly going to visit officially visit Virginia Tech on June 5th.
Virginia Tech's 2027 class ranks 56th overall in the country and No. 15 in the ACC after Frisby's pledge. That number is of course going to go up as the Hokies only have two commitments in their class as of right now.
Frisby joins three-star DL Alexander Taylor in the class. Taylor plays at St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, giving Virginia Tech two commitments from the state of Maryland.
Now that these two are on board, who might be next for Virginia Tech?
This week, four star athlete Tristin Hughes received three 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions to land with the Hokies. Hughes would be a fantastic pickup for Franklin and his staff. He is ranked as the No. 327 player in the country, the No. 14 athlete and the No. 13 player in the state of Ohio. He currently holds other offers from Penn State, Kentucky, Syracuse, and Purdue, among others.
Some notes on Hughes, courtesy of 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins:
"A natural playmaker on both sides of the ball that projects best as a split safety on Saturdays with his instincts and physicality. Followed up a stellar junior campaign with an impressive showing at The Opening regional in Indianapolis, where he picked off multiple passes. Likes to establish leverage as an open-field tackler. Fights off blocks in the box and takes sharp angles to the football. Alert in zone coverage and displays impressive route recognition. Will make acrobatic catches as a wide receiver, and those same ball skills can lead to takeaways as a defender. Very young for the class and is likely only to keep evolving as an athlete. Should be viewed as a high-floor, high-IQ prospect that can limit big plays and make timely run stops while adding plenty of special teams value."
Things are starting to heat up for Franklin and Virginia Tech on the recruiting trail, as he attempts to build on the top 25 class he put together in short order when he arrived in November.
