DeVries Announces First Coaching Staff Hire

Wednesday morning, WVU men's head basketball coach Darian DeVries announced the hire of Nick Norton as assistant coach/director of player development.

“Nick is a hard worker who brings great enthusiasm and tremendous energy to our basketball program,” DeVries said in a press release. “He always has a great rapport with our players and has a strong basketball IQ. Nick fits our basketball staff and our program extremely well.”

Norton played for DeVries during his first year at Drake and averaged 14.0 points, 5.9 assists and 4.1 rebounds per game before his season was cut short due to injury. Prior to transferring to Drake, Norton spent four years at UAB, where his father, Randy, is the women's head basketball coach. There, Norton 7.8 points and 4.5 assists.

Norton joined the DeVries' staff at Drake during the 2021-22 season as assistant director of operations and was elevated to director of operations prior to the 2022-23 season. Last year, Norton was promoted to assistant coach/director of player development.
