Jesse Edwards Thankful for Lone Season at West Virginia

West Virginia's big man is thankful for his time in the Old Gold and Blue.

The result isn't what he or the team wanted in their final home game of the season, but center Jesse Edwards went out with a bang, scoring a career-high 36 points in West Virginia's 93-81 loss to TCU on Wednesday night.

In the first matchup with the Frogs, Edwards was limited to just six points and four rebounds, shooting 1/6 from the field.

Last night, the dudes in purple had no answer for him whatsoever as he made 15/19 shots. The pick-and-roll game was dynamic and every time WVU threw it to Edwards at the block or in the paint, it was an automatic bucket. TCU fouled him a bunch in large part because they couldn't defend him and that ended up being a win for them as the big man struggled from the line, sinking just 6/18 shots from the stripe.

There's still one game left in the regular season and then the Big 12 Conference tournament which begins next Tuesday but assuming the struggles continue for the Mountaineers, the season will come to a close relatively soon. This was supposed to be a year where WVU made a serious run for a Big 12 title and made some noise in the NCAA Tournament with what looked on paper like one of the most talented rosters Bob Huggins ever coached in Morgantown. Following his resignation, players fled for the portal, tipping off what would be just the start of what would be a chaotic year.

Despite all of the craziness, Edwards is still grateful for the opportunity to play at WVU and very appreciative for the coaching staff and fans.

"To be honest, it was still one of the best years of my life. Regardless of everything that happened, it was one of the craziest seasons I've had in my life...I think for most people one of these things happens once every ten years, happened for us ten times in one season. But I've learned so much. What's even more amazing is the fact that all these fans, every night for us filled the seats. If we lost a big game before or won a big game before, it doesn't matter they'd be there. To have that kind of push to help us through a season like this (is great)."

In 21 games this season, Edwards is averaging 15.3 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game.
