New York hands PWHL Minnesota first loss of season

Emma Woods scored 4 minutes, 1 second into overtime as New York handed Minnesota’s PWHL team its first loss of the season, 3-2, Sunday at Xcel Energy Center.

Minnesota led 2-0 after the first period after getting goals by Lee Stecklein and Kelly Pannek in the frame. New York got a second-period goal from Alex Carpenter and a third-period strike from Jessie Eldrige that knotted the game at 2-2 with 9 minutes, 11 seconds remaining.

Maddie Rooney stopped 26 of 29 shots for Minnesota, while New York’s Corinne Schroeder had 39 saves on 41 shots.

Minnesota returns to action on Wednesday when it visits Ottawa. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
