Long-time college football coach Fred Pancoast dies at age 90

The college football community is mourning the loss of long-time former coach Fred Pancoast, who died at the age of 90.
Pancoast served as head coach in three different tenures, starting at the University of Tampa, which he led from 1962 to 1963.
The native of Pensacola, Fla. finished his UT career with an 8-8-3 record.
He moved to the SEC the year after, joining the Florida Gators coaching staff as an assistant, taking a role from 1964 to 1968, including as offensive backfield coach during the UF career of Steve Spurrier, who won the Heisman Trophy in 1966.
Pancoast was the Gators' offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach during the 1969 season before moving on to the school's principal rival, leading the Georgia offense as lead coordinator from 1970 to 1971.
The following season, Pancoast took his second job as a head coach, taking over at Memphis State (now the University of Memphis Tigers) from 1972 to 1974, posting a 20-12-1 record in three seasons.
Pancoast returned to the SEC by taking over the Vanderbilt program as head coach, leading the Commodores over the next four seasons, from 1975 to 1978.
He went 7-4 in his first outing at Vandy before going 2-9 in each of his final three years.
Following his football coaching career, Pancoast went into private industry and was given the President's Volunteer Service Award by President George W. Bush in 2008.
Pancoast finished his college football career with a 41-54-4 record overall.
