Note: This story includes graphic details of an alleged rape and serious injury

Iowa State football player Aidan Ralph has been arrested on charges that allege he violently raped a woman after he shoved her into a staircase so hard that it fractured her spine, according to media reports.

Ralph, a redshirt sophomore linebacker for the Cyclones, was arrested on Wednesday on felony sexual assault and misdemeanor domestic violence charges in the alleged incident at his home in Ames around 1 a.m. on Dec. 3, records say.

The police complaint says that Ralph accused the woman of cheating on him and that during the ensuing argument, he shoved her several times, including into a set of stairs, causing, in addition to the fracture, "great pain and visible swelling."

Ralph admitted to police that he shoved the victim and caused her injuries, according to the original report.

The victim allegedly asked Ralph to call for an ambulance, but he refused, and that after she removed her pants to examine her injury, police claim that was the moment when Ralph forced himself on the victim and raped her.

The injuries to the victim and the difference in their size — Ralph is listed at 6 foot 2 and 220 pounds by the Iowa State football team — resulted in the victim being unable to remove herself from him as she cried and begged him to stop, the report says.

Iowa State has suspended Ralph indefinitely from all football activities, a team spokesman told the Ames Tribune.
