Former Nebraska interim head football coach Mickey Joseph was arrested late last year by Lincoln (Neb.) police and he was then charged with strangulation and third-degree domestic assault.

Now there's a decision in that case several months later.

The domestic assault charges against Joseph have been dismissed after the alleged victim declined to testify, according to Omaha World-Herald.

What allegedly happened

Court documents said that Joseph was accused of strangling a woman during an argument, but with that woman choosing to not testify, the prosecutor filed a motion to dismiss the case, which the presiding judge then did.

The woman told police that she and Joseph were having an argument when Joseph pushed her, causing her to fall on a sofa.

She said that Joseph then got on top of her and put his hands around her throat.

"He pushed me on the couch and strangled me," she said, according to a police affidavit, adding that her breathing was impeded and that she was unable to breathe until she pushed him off.

The woman then said that after she went into the kitchen, Joseph grabbed her hair from behind, pulling her backwards, and causing her to fall on the floor.

As she was falling, she claimed, Joseph struck her in the left temple with a closed fist.

Mickey Joseph at Nebraska

Nebraska announced that it placed Joseph on administrative leave after news of his arrest was made public.

Joseph initially joined the Cornhuskers program as a wide receivers coach, but was appointed the team's interim head coach after the school fired Scott Frost.

Under his tutelage, Nebraska went 3-6 overall, including a five-game losing streak in which the team scored more than 14 points only once.

Nebraska then hired Matt Rhule as permanent head football coach.

Joseph spent five years at LSU prior to returning to Nebraska, his alma mater, last December and he was appointed as associated head coach and wide receivers coach by Frost for the 2022 football season.

Following a loss to Oklahoma in his first game as interim, Joseph won back-to-back games against Indiana and Rutgers midseason and then defeated rival Iowa in the regular season finale.
