Spencer Rattler doesn't want Oklahoma football fans to claim him now or in the future.

The quarterback began his college football career with the Sooners on a high note before getting replaced as the starter when the team was undefeated.

He later transferred to South Carolina and since then has come to a very definite opinion about Oklahoma fans and the possibility that they should claim if he went in the NFL Draft.

"I hope not," Rattler said when asked if OU fans should claim he's one of their own.

Rattler added, "The situation happened how it happened. Obviously, I was salty about it. I'm a competitor. I want to be out there playing. We were winning games, like I said.

"We were undefeated at the time that I got benched. So I'm like, 'Damn.' But hey, man. You live and you learn. God sent me here for a reason. That's how I look at it."

The quarterback originally landed with the Sooners as a highly-touted five-star recruit but was finally replaced by Caleb Williams as OU's starter.

Not that anything went too wrong on the field: Rattler passed for 3,031 yards and 28 touchdowns in his first year as the starter on a 9-2 team.

And he helped OU to a 5-0 start the following season before getting replaced by Williams in the game against Texas.

Now both are at different schools, Rattler at South Carolina and Williams at USC, with Williams winning the Heisman Trophy and Rattler playing some up-and-down football as the Gamecocks finished 8-5 but with wins against heavy favorites Clemson and Tennessee.
