Boston Red Sox' Triston Casas Does Something to Max Scherzer That's Never Been Done Before

The Boston Red Sox beat the New York Mets on Saturday night behind the power of rookie Triston Casas.

The Boston Red Sox beat the New York Mets on Saturday night by a score of 8-6.

It was an important win for the Red Sox, who took advantage of losses by the Blue Jays, Rays, and Astros to move up in the wild card standings.

At 52-47, Boston is now 2.0 games back of the final wild card spot - and 3.0 back of the second wild card spot, putting them very much in contention as we near the trade deadline.

Also, the Yankees and Mariners each won, so the Sox were able to stave them off and remain above them both in the standings.

Part of the reason the Red Sox won was the history-making power of rookie Triston Casas.

The lefty went 2-for-3 at the dish with two runs scored and three RBI. He also hit two home runs off Mets ace Max Scherzer, making him the first rookie to ever do that to Scherzer in the same game.

For Casas, he now has 14 blasts on the season.

After a dreadful start to the year, Casas is now hitting .244 on the season with the 14 homers and 35 RBI. If the Red Sox can get him to keep performing, and get Trevor Story making contributions when he comes back from injury, the balanced Red Sox offense will be a formidable challenge for teams down the stretch.

The Red Sox and Mets will meet again on Sunday night as part of ESPN's "Sunday Night Baseball." First pitch from Fenway Park is 7:10 p.m. ET.
