Cal Raleigh Breaks Single-Season Home Run Record For a Seattle Mariners Catcher

In this story:
Cal Raleigh has set himself apart in the Seattle Mariners' record books once again.
The 26-year-old catcher belted his 28th home run of the season against the Los Angeles Angels on Monday night. By doing so, Raleigh broke the franchise's single-season record for home runs by a catcher.
Raleigh held the previous record after hitting 27 in 2022.
Hitting out of the cleanup spot, Raleigh finished the night 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Raleigh has been on fire as of late, hitting .381 with three home runs and a 1.219 OPS in his last six appearances. On the season, Raleigh is now batting .237 with 68 RBI, a .794 OPS and a 2.9 WAR.
Since making his major league debut in 2021, Raleigh has belted 57 home runs – 48 while playing catcher and the other nine as a designated hitter or pinch hitter. The only players in MLB history who have more home runs through their first three seasons while playing catcher are Wilin Rosario with 49 and Mike Piazza with 60.
Raleigh became the second-fastest player in Mariners history – catcher or otherwise – to reach 50 career home runs back in August. If he can hit three more in Seattle's final 18 games of the season, he could beat out Alex Rodriguez to became the first player in franchise history to reach 60 home runs in fewer than 320 games.
The Mariners were ultimately unable to fully celebrate Raleigh's big night, as they went on to lose 8-5 to the Angels on Monday. The series continues Tuesday, with game two scheduled to get underway at 9:40 p.m. ET.
