The New York Mets pounded the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday night, 9-0, to complete a three-game sweep.

The Mets have now won five games in a row and have creeped to within 6.5 games of the final wild card spot.

The Mets got dominant starting pitching over the last two nights, which we covered here, but they also got a historic performance offensively from star shortstop Francisco Lindor.

Lindor went 5-for-5 in the win on Thursday and made some team history in the process.

Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

Francisco Lindor is the first player in Mets franchise history with 2 triples in the 1st 3 innings of a game

In addition to the two triples, he also homered and singled twice, falling a double shy of the cycle. He had an RBI and three runs scored also.

For the season, Lindor is hitting .233 with 18 homers and 57 RBI. He's also stolen 11 bases. Though his overall average looks low, he's hitting .321 over his last 15 games.

He's in his ninth year in the big leagues with the Cleveland franchise and the Mets, having been traded to New York before the 2021 season.

He's a lifetime .274 hitter with 202 homers and 638 RBI.

The Mets will start a new series on Friday with the San Diego Padres in San Diego. Both teams are tied in the standings right now so the series definitely has meaning before the All-Star break.

Justin Verlander will take the ball for New York.

First pitch is 9:40 p.m. ET.
