Yordan Alvarez Joins Lou Gehrig in Baseball As Houston Astros Take Game 3

The Houston Astros beat the Texas Rangers in Game 3 of the ALCS on Wednesday night and Yordan Alvarez etched his name into the record books alongside Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig.

The Houston Astros beat the Texas Rangers in Game of the ALCS on Wednesday night. The 8-5 Astros' win means they now trail the best-of-seven series 2-1 and are three wins away from a return trip to the World Series.

Houston pounded out 12 hits in the win, including a home run by superstar infielder Jose Altuve. They also got a 2-for-4 effort from slugger Yordan Alvarez, who joined some illustrious company in baseball history.

Per @OptaSTATS on social media:

The @astros are now 18-2 (.900) in the postseason when Yordan Alvarez has an RBI.

Only one other MLB player has a .900+ career winning percentage in the postseason when driving in a run (min. 20 games): Lou Gehrig (also 18-2).

Considering that Gehrig is one of the most decorated players in history, that's special for Alvarez, who is one of the best playoff performers in the sport.

This postseason, Alvarez is hitting .407 through seven games. He's got six homers and 10 RBI. For his career, he's a .272 playoff hitter with 12 homers and 36 RBI.

Though he battled an oblique injury this season, Alvarez still hit .293 with 31 homers and 97 RBI. He posted an OPS of .990 and is a lifetime .295 hitter.

Game 4 of the ALCS will be played on Thursday night. First pitch from Arlington will be set for 8:03 p.m. ET.

This game will be played after Game 3 of the NLCS, which is being played in Phoenix between the Diamondbacks and Phillies.
