Los Angeles Angels' Shohei Ohtani Accomplishes This For the First Time in His Career on Saturday

Despite how good he's been in his career, Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani accomplished this feat for the first time on Saturday in a win against the New York Mets.

The Los Angeles Angels beat the New York Mets on Saturday night by a score of 5-3.

The win was the Angels second in a row against the Mets and moved them to 63-67 on the season.

They are now 9.5 games back of the third and final wild card spot.

As he has so many times this year, Shohei Ohtani carried the Angels offense, going 2-for-3 with a triple, double, two walks, two runs scored and two stolen bases.

Despite how good he's been in his career, Ohtani had never accomplished a stat line like that, per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

this is Shohei Ohtani's first career game with multiple extra-base hits AND multiple stolen bases

he's the first Angels player to do so since Howie Kendrick on May 11, 2014

It's amazing that Ohtani was able to accomplish this in the wake of the devastating news this week that he has a tear in his UCL and won't pitch again this season.

He's having an incredible overall season that is likely to net him his second MVP award in three years. He's hitting .307 this season with 44 home runs and 92 RBI. He's also got 19 stolen bases and an OPS of 1.084.

On the mound, he finished at 10-5 with a 3.14 ERA.

The Angels and Mets will play again on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. ET.

Griffin Canning (LAA) will pitch against Mets lefty David Peterson.

Canning is 7-4 with a 4.61 ERA while Peterson is 3-7.
