In this story:

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the San Diego Padres 11-8 on Monday night but Dodgers' leadoff hitter Mookie Betts continued to move up the all-time record books with another home run.

He went 2-for-4 in the loss with his 39th homer of the season. He also had four RBI, giving him 103 on the year.

Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

Mookie Betts’ 39 HR are tied for the most out of the leadoff spot in a season, with:

2019 George Springer

2006 Alfonso Soriano

And then there's this, also from Langs:

Mookie Betts’ 12 leadoff HR are tied for the 2nd-most in a season, behind only:

2003 Alfonso Soriano: 13

And finally, per Dodger Insider on social media:

Mookie Betts has now tied Charlie Blackmon's Major League record for most RBI out of the leadoff spot with his 103rd. Betts has four RBI through three innings tonight.

It's been an incredible season for Betts, who figures to generate significant MVP votes come award season. He'll be in contention for the award with Freddie Freeman (Dodgers), Matt Olson (Braves) and Ronald Acuna Jr. (Braves).

Betts is in his fourth year in Los Angeles and is looking to help the Dodgers to their second World Series in that time, having also won the title in 2020. They are currently 87-56 and have the second-best record in the NL, behind the Braves.

Betts is a seven-time All-Star and a six-time Gold Glove winner. He won the MVP in the American League in 2018 as a member of the Boston Red Sox.

The Dodgers and Padres will play again on Tuesday at 10:10 p.m. ET.
