New York Mets Trade Candidate Joins Rare Club in Team Record Books on Sunday

Mark Canha was a menace in the outfield on Sunday night as the New York Mets fell to the Boston Red Sox.

The New York Mets lost to the Boston Red Sox on Sunday night, 6-1. It was a disappointing end to another disappointing series for New York, who ended up losing two of three in Boston.

While the Mets bats went silent, and starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco really struggled in defeat, the loss cannot be blamed on the defense of Mets outfielder Mark Canha, who made multiple great plays on the night.

Canha threw three Red Sox runners out on the bases, including Jarren Duran at home in the first inning, and joined a special club in team history.

Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

Mark Canha’s 3 OF assists are tied for the most by a Mets player in a game, with:

6/4/06 Endy Chavez

5/23/81 Joel Youngblood

5/7/75 Gene Clines

4/11/62 Gus Bell

A definitely impressive day for Canha, who could find himself traded at the upcoming trade deadline. Buster Olney of ESPN specifically mentioned on the Sunday Night Baseball telecast that the Seattle Mariners could be interested in Canha, and they pursued him in free agency before he landed in New York.

The 34-year-old Canha is in his ninth year in the big leagues with the Athletics and Mets. He's a career .247 hitter with 108 homers and 383 RBI.

This year, he's hitting .238 with six homers and 28 RBI and has added seven stolen bases.

The Mets are currently 46-53 and 7.5 games back in the National League wild card chase.

They'll travel to Yankee Stadium to take on the Yankees on Tuesday night.

First pitch is 7:05 p.m. ET.
