Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels Surpasses Ken Griffey Jr. on This All-Time List on Monday

In this story:
The Los Angeles Angels have lost seven straight games and have seen their playoff chances plummet in the last week, falling to 8.0 games back in the chase for the final wild card spot in the American League.
The latest defeat was a loss to the San Francisco Giants on Monday, who used a historic effort in their win.
For the Angels, superstar Shohei Ohtani went 2-for-4 in the defeat. He also stole a base, which put him in elite history in his own right.
Per ESPN Stats & Info:
Shohei Ohtani is the first player in MLB history to record 40 HR and 15 stolen bases in a team’s first 115 games.
The only other player to do it within a team’s first 120 games is Ken Griffey Jr. in 1998.

Any time you are able to join - and surpass - Ken Griffey Jr. in baseball history, you're doing something right and Ohtani certainly is.
Ohtani is now hitting .308 this season with 40 homers and 82 RBI. He's also got those 15 steals and he's headed for his second American League MVP award in three years, as he also won the award back in 2021.
As for Griffey? He is widely seen as one of the best players to ever play the game. He hit 630 career homers over a 22-year career with the Mariners, Reds and White Sox. He was a 13-time All-Star, a 10-time Gold Glover, an MVP and is a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Ohtani and the Angels will take on the Giants again on Tuesday night at 9:38 p.m. ET.
