The Baltimore Orioles lost on Monday to the Cleveland Guardians, 5-0, but they may have lost much more than just the game.

Star outfielder Cedric Mullins left the game early and has been diagnosed with a right groin abductor strain.

The following update appeared on the RotoWire fantasy baseball portal:

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said after Monday's 5-0 loss to the Guardians that Mullins has been diagnosed with a right groin abductor strain, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports.

ANALYSIS
Mullins was injured while running out a groundball to first base in the eighth inning. He'll undergo further examination before the Orioles determined how much time he might miss, but Mullins' groin strain certainly sounds like something that could force him to the 10-day injured list. Mullins went 0-for-2 with a pair of walks before exiting Monday's game in the top of the ninth.

If Mullins needs to go on the injured list, it would be a critical loss for the Orioles, who currently are 34-20 and in second place in the American League East.

Hitting at the top of the order, Mullins is hitting .263 this season with eight home runs and 39 RBI. He's also stolen 13 bases.

For his career, he's also a .263 hitter. He hit a career-high 30 home runs in 2021 for Baltimore. He made the All-Star team in 2021 and has won a Silver Slugger.

The Orioles and Guardians will play again on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. ET.

Kyle Gibson will get the ball for Baltimore.
