As the Pittsburgh Pirates play out the string on another disappointing season, they are supposed to be looking forward to watching prospects develop.

Unfortunately, that was made more difficult this week as former No. 1 overall draft pick Henry Davis was put on the injured list with a right hand strain.

The report on his injury appeared on MLB.com and said he was expected to make it back by September, but still, he'll be missing a valuable chunk of time, at-bats and experience.

From a portion of the article:

Davis was dealing off and on with an injury around his right thumb area, he said, which he and the Pirates' training staff had been able to manage over the course of a few weeks. However, he was placed on the IL on Aug. 21 and won't swing the bat for a few days, manager Derek Shelton said.

Davis is graduated from the Top-30 prospect list for the Pirates but he pairs with Paul Skenes, Termarr Johnson and Endy Rodriguez as exciting parts of the Pirates' future.

In 183 at-bats since being called up, Davis is hitting .213 with five home runs and 18 RBI. He's also scored 24 runs and stolen three bases.

Drafted out of Louisville in 2021 as a catcher, he has played mostly outfield.

The Pirates enter play on Wednesday at 57-69. They are taking on the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday at PNC Park in a battle of the two last place teams in the National League Central.
