The Houston Astros, who were set to send slugger Yordan Alvarez off on a rehab assignment on Friday, will have to wait a little longer.

His rehab assignment was delayed because of an illness, per reports.

The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

Alvarez's (oblique) rehab assignment with Triple-A Sugar Land was delayed due to illness.

ANALYSIS
Alvarez was slated to begin playing in games with Sugar Land on Friday, but his return to the field will have to wait as he fights off an illness. It's unclear what effect this will have on Alvarez's return to Houston, but the Astros will surely look to get their star slugger back as soon as possible. Alvarez has been on the IL since early June with a right oblique strain.

While an illness is never good news, it's nice to see that his return hasn't been delayed because of an injury setback.

Alvarez is one of the most intimidating hitters in all of baseball. Prior to going on the injured list, he had already popped 17 homers and driven in 55. He's got a .277 batting average this year and a .388 on-base percentage.

The Astros lineup is truly not the same when he's not in it, and his presence will loom large as they look for a second-half surge.

Texas opens up the second half at 50-41 and 2.0 games back of the Texas Rangers in the American League West.

They'll begin play on Friday against the Los Angeles Angels. Shohei Ohtani is on the mound for the Halos.
