The Miami Marlins, fresh off getting swept by the Atlanta Braves this weekend, got more bad news on Monday.

Star outfielder and key lineup component Jazz Chisholm was placed on the injured list with an oblique strain.

The following comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

Chisholm was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday with a left oblique strain, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

ANALYSIS
Chisholm sustained the injured during Sunday's loss to Atlanta. He had just come back from the IL a week ago after missing the previous month-and-a-half with turf toe. Chisholm will be eligible to return at the beginning of the second half but, depending on the grade of the strain, could be sidelined a bit longer than that. Per McPherson, the severity of Chisholm's injury is expected to be revealed Tuesday following an MRI Monday. Jonathan Davis should operate as the Marlins' regular center fielder while Chisholm is out.

Hopefully the Marlins are just playing it safe with Chisholm given that the All-Star break is approaching and he'll get additional time to recover, but we won't know for sure until Tuesday.

The Marlins are battling for their first playoff spot since 2020 and currently hold the top wild card spot in the National League. They are in good position, but Chisholm's presence in that lineup is huge.

He's hitting .246 this year with nine homers, 21 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 167 at-bats.

The Marlins are back in action on Monday at 6:40 p.m. ET when they take on the St. Louis Cardinals.
