Miami Marlins Star Undergoing Surgery and Won't Run For Three Months

With the Miami Marlins' postseason run now over, star outfielder Jazz Chisholm is undergoing surgery on his toe. He won't run for three months per reports.

Miami Marlins star Jazz Chisholm Jr. is undergoing toe surgery and won't run for three months, per reports.

With the Marlins' postseason run now over, Chisholm elected to get the surgery right after the season. He'll have it done on Tuesday.

Per MLB.com:

The club has not confirmed the procedure, which will sideline Chisholm for 12 weeks before he can return to wearing a shoe and begin running again.

Chisholm injured the toe on the cement block of the left-center-field wall at loanDepot park on May 13 while trying to make an inning-ending catch. Initial X-rays came back negative, and the club called it a right foot contusion. But the first doctor Chisholm saw told him he might need surgery, while another specialist said he could treat it and return within four weeks.

The 25-year-old Chisholm, who spent time in a walking boot, elected the second option..

It was a frustrating season overall for Chisholm, who is one of the bright, young stars in baseball.

The 25-year-old spent time on the IL for the toe issue, and then also went on the injured list in July for a strained oblique.

In 352 at-bats this regular season, he hit .250 with 19 homers and 51 RBI. He stole 22 bases. Since running is such a big part of his game, it's obviously important to get his toe right this offseason.

Lifetime, he's a .245 hitter with 53 homers and 155 RBI.

He helped lead the Marlins to an 84-win season. They were swept in the National League wild card round by the Philadelphia Phillies.
