New York Yankees star Aaron Judge gave a gloomy update on how his injured toe is feeling on Thursday afternoon.

Judge was placed on the injured list this week with the toe issue. He suffered the injury last Saturday while making a catch at Dodger Stadium and running into the right field wall.

Bryan Hoch of MLB.com has Judge's words, posted on Twitter:

“It doesn’t feel great. If it felt great, I’d be out there.” - Aaron Judge

While that doesn't necessarily mean that things are worse than originally thought, and while it doesn't necessarily mean that Judge's recovery timeline has changed, it's still not great to hear.

He's obviously the biggest component to the Yankees lineup and his absence is certainly a problem for a team that is battling it out in the American League standings.

After winning the MVP a season ago, Judge is hitting .291 this year with 19 homers and 40 RBI. He's added three stolen bases. For his career, he's a .284 hitter with 239 home runs.

Judge signed a massive nine-year, $360 million contract this offseason that will likely keep him in New York for the rest of his career. In addition to the MVP award, Judge has won Rookie of the Year, a home run derby title, three Silver Slugger awards, and is a four-time All-Star selection.

In addition to Judge being injured, the team has placed starting pitcher Nestor Cortes Jr. on the injured list as well.

The Yankees enter play on Thursday at 36-26 and in third place in the American League East. They'll have a doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox.

Fist pitch is slated for 4:05 p.m. ET.
