The Seattle Mariners are holding their breath when it comes to the health of first baseman Ty France.

France, who hit the game-winning home run on Tuesday night against the Oakland Athletics, left the game in the eighth inning after being hit by a pitch in the hand/wrist area.

After initially staying in the game, he was lifted for a pinch-runner and Sam Haggerty played first base in the ninth.

After the game, the Mariners provided a generally positive update on his health. Daniel Kramer of MLB.com put out the Tweet:

Initial X-rays on Ty France’s left wrist came back negative, but Scott Servais said there is a contusion and a lot of swelling in the area, putting doubt on the first baseman being in tomorrow’s lineup. As for a possible IL stint, the Mariners will assess it day to day.

That's probably as positive an update as you could hope for, but for a Mariners team that ranks in the bottom third of most offensive metrics, losing France for any stretch of time would be difficult to overcome.

For the season, he's hitting .261 with three homers and 21 RBI. He was acquired by the Mariners during the COVID 2020 season and is a lifetime .277 hitter with 52 homers and 224 RBI.

He was a 34th-round pick of the Padres back in the 2015 draft out of San Diego State, where he played for the legendary Tony Gwynn.

The Mariners will take on the Athletics again on Wednesday night. First pitch is set for 9:40 p.m. ET.
